Born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, Leanne Iacovetta Poirier moved to Los Angeles in 2008 to attend UCLA where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with B.A. degrees in World Arts and Cultures/Dance and Communications. At UCLA, she co-produced the annual undergraduate dance showcase, WACsmash, and was president of the Undergraduate Society. Leanne also had the honor of working with UCLA faculty members Lionel Popkin, Vic Marks, Lynn Dally, Michel Kouakou, and David Roussève. Upon graduation, Leanne was asked to join Roussève's contemporary dance company, David Roussève/REALITY, as a cast member in his work Stardust.
For the last seven years, Leanne has been fortunate to find employment within all of her passions, working as a professional dancer, choreographer, teaching artist and arts administrator. As part of the cast of Stardust, she toured the country throughout 2014-2015, performing in Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, Washington, Los Angeles, Long Beach and Massachusetts, at the highly esteemed Jacob’s Pillow. Leanne also served as Touring Manager for David Roussève/REALITY's Stardust tour. Leanne is currently on tour with Rousseve, performing on his new piece, Halfway to Dawn, which premiered at REDCAT October 4-7, 2018.
In addition to working as a professional dancer, Leanne also teaches dance. While in Los Angeles, she taught at Your Neighborhood Studio and Fifth Row Center Performing Arts. While living in Connecticut, she taught at Evjen Academy, Dance10 and Alyce Carella Dance Centre. While on tour, Leanne teaches technique and repertory classes to students through the company's community engagement program. Leanne regularly travels back to Hartford to set competition pieces and teach master classes. For the 2018-2019 dance year, Leanne set 25 competition pieces that will be competed throughout New England.
Leanne is also an award-winning choreographer. Her work, "2,900" premiered at Electric Lodge on August 28, 2015 and was selected as "Audience Favorite" as part of the Breaking Glass Project 2015 - produced by Ellenore Scott. Her choreography has been shown at the Pasadena Dance Festival, Awakenings and Beginnings Dance Festival, MixMatch Dance Festival, Plymouth State University's Dance Premiere Gala, New England Youth Dance Exchange at Boston University and in school and studio performances throughout LA and CT. Leanne has also received choreography awards from numerous dance competitions including: Showbiz Dance Competition, BravO! National Dance and Talent Competition, Elite Performance Challenge, Energy National Dance Competition and Work It Dance Challenge.
Leanne also does arts administration for select LA artists, dance companies and non-profit organizations. In addition to dancing for Rousseve, she manages the company. Leanne is also the Co-Director of the UCLA Dance/Performing Arts Summer Intensive, hosted by the Department of World Arts and Cultures/Dance. Not only does she work administratively throughout the year to plan and arrange the program, she teaches Composition and Contemporary throughout the week and artistically directs the program's culmination show.
